Wood 1 Not Me

Part of the Wood Memory series, Wood 1 – Not Me explores the relationship between perception, memory, and identity.

Working directly with the natural grain of the wood, I extend and reinterpret its existing lines rather than imposing a new image upon the material. The eye instinctively searches for familiar forms and coherent patterns, yet the closer we look, the more unstable those certainties become.

The title, Not Me, reflects on the gap between appearance and reality. What we see is not always what is there. Like the marks embedded in wood through time, identity is shaped by invisible experiences that cannot be understood at first glance.

The work invites a slower act of looking, suggesting that both nature and people reveal themselves only through careful observation.
